Uttaranchal Pilgrimage Tour - 9 Days

 
 
 

This short pilgrimage tour takes you the holy shrines of Yamnotri and Gangotri the glacial sources of the sacred Ganga and Yamuna Rivers. En-route you encounter some of the most breathtaking views of the Higher Himalayas.

Day 1: On arrival at Delhi airport we meet you and transfer you to your pre-reserved hotel. The morning is free to relax. In the afternoon we take on a half day old Delhi city tour. See the Red Fort, the mosque known as Jama Masjid both built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan many centuries ago. (Optional as you may want spend the day relaxing in your hotel). Return to your hotel for the night.

Day 2: Drive from Delhi to the holy town of Haridwar on the banks of the River Ganges. Check into your hotel and then after lunch stroll around the town and the banks of the River Ganges. Return to your hotel for the night.

Day 3: Drive 7 hours to the small village of Guptkashi / Barkot at a deluxe tented camp. We pass the hill resort of Mussoorie on the way. Drive for about 32 Kms to the starting point for the Yamnotri - the small hamlet of Hanuman Chatti. Start the 7 Km trek to Yamnotri spend a while and return to your deluxe camp by late evening for a rejuvenating Ayurvedic massage and dinner.

Day 4: Today's drive is about 7 hours to the beautiful valley of Harsil. We stop for lunch at Uttarkashi another holy town with numerous temples. Gangnani is another stop where you can take a dip in the hot water springs. Harsil is a beautiful valley with panoramic views of the high Himalayan ranges. Check into the Harsil deluxe tented camp for the night.

Day 5: Today we take an extended tour of the small village of Gangotri situated at 3048 metres. It has a white granite Gangotri shrine dedicated to the Goddess Ganga and built in the 18 th century on the banks of the River Bhagirathi which later becomes the Ganges. 14 Kms north is the Gaumukh glacier the source of the Ganga River. Return to your camp by afternoon and after tea drive down to the temple town of Uttarkashi. Check into a hotel.

Day 6: We drive back to Haridwar which takes about 9 hours and check into a pre-reserved hotel.

Day 7: A short drive takes us back to Delhi where you check into your hotel. The afternoon and evening is free for shopping and other personal activities.

Day 8: Drive to Agra city - a 5 hour drive after an early breakfast. In Agra visit the legendary Taj Mahal, the Fort and the abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri 37 Kms away. In the evening drive back to Delhi and your hotel in time for dinner.

Day 9: The day is free to explore New Delhi with its massive colonial buildings in sandstone and granite today housing Government offices, the India Gate, the Delhi Zoo and the impressive tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun before returning to your hotel for the night. I nternational flights normally leave late at night or very early in the mornings. We transfer you to the airport for your onward flight according to the flight timings.
