Tripura another state that lies to the southern most tip of Northeast India shares its international border with Bangladesh on three sides and its domestic borders with the states of Assam and Mizoram. Legend has it that the name Tripura is derived from Tripura Sundari – the deity who presides over the land. Others believe that the name originates from Tuipra meaning land adjoining water and historically Tripura's boundaries once stretched up to the Bay of Bengal. Once a kingdom ruled by the Manika dynasty Tripura opted to merge with the Indian Union in 1947 becoming a state only in 1972.

Lying within an area of 10,492 Sq.Kms, Tripura's landscape comprises of 60% of hilly terrain and forests. It has a temperature varying between 10 to 35º C. Agartala the capital of this state is today a thriving city with modern shopping and numerous places of interest to the visitor. These include the elaborate Ujjayanta Palace, the State and Tribal museums, the Gedu Mian mosque and surprisingly even a Portuguese Church. There are also quite a few temples the better known ones being Laxmi Narayan Temple, Uma Maheswar Temple the Jagannath Temple and the Fourteen Goddess Temple. The surrounding countryside also offers a number of excursions.

The Comprehensive Tripura Tour

Day 1: On arrival at Kolkata airport you are met by our representative and taken to your pre-reserved hotel. We take you an afternoon tour of this famous city once the capital of British India. We visit the Victoria memorial built in 1921 standing proudly at the southern end of the lush green Maidan then explore the Indian Museum the largest in the country with its exhaustive collections relating to archaeology, geology, anthropology and zoology. In the evening return to your hotel for dinner and the night.

Day 2: Drive to the airport in the morning to board your flight to Agartala at 9:45 am. On arrival in Agartala at 10:35 am , we take you to your hotel. After resting fro awhile we take you on a tour of the city visiting the Kunjaban Palace built in 1917 by Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya and the Ujjayanta Palace a kilometer away built in 1901 by Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya. The mansion is a magnificent two storied structure with beautiful gardens, fountains, parks and tanks. We return to the hotel for lunch and then in the afternoon visit before returning to your hotel for the night.

Day 3: We continue our tour in Agartala visiting the State Museum and the interesting Handloom and Handicraft centre . Return to the hotel for lunch and then after a brief rest we leave Agartala to visit a Tripura village and experience the lifestyle of these simple agricultural folk. Return to your hotel by evening.

Day 4: Today we drive south to visit the Neermahal Palace . Neermahal or the ‘water palace', built in 1930 by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya as his summer resort is located at a distance of about 53 km south of Agartala. This exquisite edifice in the center of the Rudrasagar lake covering an area of 5.3 sq. km is one of the best examples of Hindu and Muslim architecture and design, still reflecting the splendour of its past. The meticulously landscaped gardens and flood lights in the evenings add an ethereal beauty this gem of a palace. The Rudrasagar Lake is home to a large number of migratory birds in the winter season.

Day 5: After breakfast we drive you to the airport to catch your flight to Kolkata. On arrival we check you into your pre-reserved hotel and after a farewell dinner we wish you all the best for your next destination. (If required, we will gladly arrange all transportation to your next desired destination if intimated before the tour.)
