The Comprehensive West Sikkim Tour


This tour takes you into western Sikkim with its small hamlets and towns with a laidback lifestyle. From Pilling you get fabulous views of the Kanchenjunga mountain peak the third highest in the world. Gangtok offers you a modern Sikkim with posh shops, broad roads and avenues excellent food and hotels.

Day 1: On arrival at Kolkata (Calcutta) International airport you are met by our representative who helps you check into your pre-reserved hotel. We take you an afternoon tour of this famous city once the capital of British India. We visit the Victoria memorial built in 1921 standing proudly at the southern end of the lush green Maidan then explore the Indian Museum the largest in the country with its exhaustive collections relating to archaeology, geology, anthropology and zoology. In the evening return to your hotel for dinner and the night.

Day 2: After breakfast leave for the airport to catch your afternoon flight to the small city of Bagdogra. On arrival at the Bagdogra Airport you are met by our representative and transported to Darjeeling the famous hill resort of West Bengal by car a distance of 88 Kms (3 hours). En-route we stop over for lunch. On arrival we check you into your preserved hotel. Spend your evening at leisure or stroll along the main shopping and eating area in this charming hill resort town in West Bengal.

Day 3: After breakfast we visit the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute founded in 1954 and explore the Institute museum containing a large collection of Himalayan Flora & Fauna and different mountaineering equipment used by the many expeditions who successfully climbed Mt. Everest (29,028 ft) the highest mountain peak in the world. Close by view Siberian Tigers, Himalayan Black Bears, Deer and Leopards in the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park . After lunch we head on to the awesome Victoria Falls cascading 100 feet down a lush green hillside into a valley. In the evening return to your hotel for dinner and the night.

Day 4: Today we drive 47 kilometres to visit the exotic scenic spot of Mirik situated in a tiny valley at an altitude of about 1750m \ 5800 ft, with its fairytale lake- which is fed by a perennial spring and surrounded by lush forests of Crypto Maria japonica . From here you get fabulous views of the Kanchanjunga peak. After lunch here, we return to Darjeeling by late evening and then visit the Lloyd Botanical Gardens near the taxi stand known for its terraced gardens of exotic plants and flowers from other countries namely China, Australia, Japan, Africa, New Zealand and America and Europe. The enchanting Orchidadum houses over 2500 plants with over 50 species of rare orchids. Return to your hotel for the night.

Day 5: Before dawn we drive 11 Kms up to Tiger Hill at 2590 m through thick forests of Oak and magnolia to see the spectacular sunrise over the towering Kanchenjunga Mountain , an unforgettable experience. Return for breakfast then drive to Gangtok the capital of Sikkim and check into your hotel. The drive of 115 Kms (about 4 hours) is an unforgettable one as we pass the famous Lopchu Tea estate renowned for its fine tea.

Day 6: After breakfast we drive 38 Kms to the emerald blue Tsongo Lake at an altitude of 12,000ft. During winters, this lake freezes over and is a beautiful sight. We return to Gangtok in the afternoon for late lunch. After relaxing a bit we visit the Do-drul monastery, Gangtok Ropeway and other places of tourist importance. Return to your hotel for the night.

Day 7: After breakfast we drive to Rabongla a small town at 8000 ft located in South Sikkim and check in to your pre-reserved hotel. Here you get some of the most picturesque and clear views of Mt. Nursing and other towering mountains of the Kanchenjunga range. In the afternoon take a stroll amidst this beautiful landscape dotted with a profusion of wild flowers from April to May. Visit the Rayong Sunrise View point , and then drive 13 Kms to the two monasteries the older of which were built in 1768 AD whose monks follow the Kagyupa sect headed once by the 9 th Karmapa. Masked dances are held every year. Return to your hotel for the night.

Day 8: After breakfast we drive to the small town of Yuksom at an altitude of 1780m and which means ‘the meeting place of three Lamas' Yuksom was once the capital of Sikkim in 1641. Yuksom is also the starting place for numerous treks and mountaineering expeditions in the region. Return to your hotel by evening for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9: Drive to the small hamlet of Pelling and check in to your hotel.

Day 10: After breakfast drive 27 Kms to the enchanting Khechepalri Lake , one of the sacred lakes of Sikkim hidden behind a thick forest. Legend has it that not a single leaf from the trees around is allowed to remain in this lake as the birds take it away immediately. On the lakeshore adorned with fluttering prayer flags is also a small village – Tsojo inhabited by the Lepcha tribe. En-route we visit the charming waterfalls cascading done a hillside and return to Pelling by early afternoon. In the afternoon we visit the Pemayangtse Monastery literally meaning ‘Perfect Sublime Lotus'. Founded in 1705, this important monastery of the Nyingma pa sect has a priceless collection of manuscripts, elaborate wall paintings and beautiful sculptures and images. On the third floor of the monastery stands a unique seven tiered wooden image of the house of Guru Rinpoche along with paintings of divinities and Bodhisattva. This monastery is also known for its annual Cham festival held during January / February. Return to your hotel for the night.

Day 11: After a leisurely breakfast we transfer you by road to reach Bagdogra in time for your afternoon Kolkata flight. On arrival in Kolkata we transfer you to your hotel for the night. End of tour. Sikkim Cultural Tours
