The Ultimate Sikkim Tour 9 Nts / 10 Days

This tour covers most of the major must see destinations in this beautiful mountain state. 1829 was the first time the British set foot in this idyllic hill resorts then under the Gurkhas. It had been taken over from the Raja of Sikkim to whom it originally belonged. In 1835 the British were finally gifted this beautiful hilly landscape and set about building themselves cottages, manors, bungalows and administrative buildings. In 1881 a narrow gauge toy train was inaugurated and made traveling up to this picturesque hill station easier. Tea gardens also form a major part of Darjeeling's landscape producing some of the finest tea in the world. Darjeeling also has numerous restaurants serving up a multi cuisine fare, budget to deluxe class hotels, exceptional shopping especially handicrafts, sweaters, socks and Tibetan brassware, jewellery, gems, curious, excellent woodwork and finely woven carpets and rugs. Sikkim easily accessible from here is another traveller's delight.

Day 1: On arrival at Kolkata (Calcutta) International airport you are met by our representative who helps you check into your pre-reserved hotel. We take you an afternoon tour of this famous city once the capital of British India. We visit the Victoria memorial built in 1921 standing proudly at the southern end of the lush green Maidan then explore the Indian Museum the largest in the country with its exhaustive collections relating to archaeology, geology, anthropology and zoology. In the evening return to your hotel for dinner and the night.

Day 2: After breakfast leave for the airport to catch your 45 minute afternoon flight to the small city of Bagdogra. On arrival at the Bagdogra Airport you are met by our representative and transported to Darjeeling the famous hill resort of West Bengal by car a distance of 88 Kms (3 hours). En-route we stop over for lunch. On arrival we check you into your preserved hotel. Spend your evening at leisure or stroll along the main shopping and eating area in this charming hill resort town.

Day 3: After breakfast we visit the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute founded in 1954 and explore the Institute museum containing a large collection of Himalayan Flora & Fauna and different mountaineering equipment used by the many expeditions who successfully climbed Mt. Everest (29,028 ft) the highest mountain peak in the world. Close by view Siberian Tigers, Himalayan Black Bears, Deer and Leopards in the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park . After lunch we head on to the awesome Victoria Falls cascading 100 feet down a lush green hillside into a valley. In the evening return to your hotel for dinner and the night.

Day 4: Today we drive 26 kilometres to visit the exotic picnic spot of Tadakh . Here the West Bengal Forest Corporation has cultured almost 110 rare species of hybrid and local orchids besides other Himalayan flora. We return to Darjeeling for lunch and then visit the Lloyd Botanical Gardens near the taxi stand known for its terraced gardens of exotic plants and flowers from other countries namely China, Australia, Japan, Africa, New Zealand and America and Europe. The enchanting Orchidadum houses over 2500 plants with over 50 species of rare orchids. Return to your hotel for the night.

Day 5: Before dawn we drive 11 Kms up to Tiger Hill at 2590 m through thick forests of Oak and magnolia to see the spectacular sunrise over the towering Kanchenjunga Mountain , an unforgettable experience. Return for breakfast then drive to Gangtok the capital of Sikkim and check into your hotel. The drive of 115 Kms (about 4 hours) is an unforgettable one as we pass the famous Lopchu Tea estate renowned for its fine tea. After lunch we stroll around the quaint bazaar

Day 6: After breakfast we visit the Enchey Monastery , the Cottage Industries and the Research Institute of Tibetology and the Do Drul Chorten . After lunch we drive 25 Kms / 45 minutes to the most famous of all Sikkim monasteries the 300 year old Rumtek Gompa . The interiors of this beautiful monastery house priceless images and thangkas besides ancient manuscripts and icons. Return to Gangtok and your hotel in time for dinner.

Day 7: After breakfast we drive to one of the most beautiful monasteries Phodong in Sikkim 45 Kms away and a km further to the 100 year old Labrang Monastery . Return to Gangtok by early evening which is then on free for shopping and a pleasant walk around town. Return to your hotel for dinner and the night.

Day 8: We drive to the Rabongla via the Temi Tea Gardens . The journey of 90 Kms through a Jeepable track takes about 5-6 hours to cover. We stop over at Rabongla for the night.

Day 9: After breakfast we drive 55 Kms (about 3 hours) to the small town of Yuksom. On the way we stop briefly at the Pemayangtse Monastery and the beautiful Kheocheplari Lake. We stay overnight at Yuksom.

Day 10: A long drive back to the Bagdogra Airport to catch your evening flight to Kolkata. On arrival we check you into your hotel for the night after a farewell dinner. End of the tour.
