The Elaborate Rajasthan Discovery Package - 13 Nts / 14 Days

This extensive tour of the legendary erstwhile kingdoms of Rajasthan takes you to practically all the major cities in the state. We visit impressive forts, opulent palaces, museums displaying rare treasures once belonging to the royal families and also drive through a desert landscaped amazingly bursting with colour displayed in the local people's attire and turbans. A most memorable journey into the Land of Kings.


Day 1: On your arrival at the International airport our representative meets you and drives you to your pre-reserved hotel. In the afternoon we take you on a half day city tour of Old Delhi with its exotic merchandise and delicious rich cuisine, secret recipes of which have been handed down from generation to generation since the time of the great Mughals. Return to your hotel for the night.

Day 2: After breakfast we drive west to the ancient towns of Mandwa & Nawalgarh in the Shekawati region. We check you into your hotel and then take a half day tour of Mandwa founded in 1755 by Thakur Nawal Singh and still the home to his descendants. The museum in Mandwa houses a collection of armouries, canons dating back to 1820, ancient coins and many other fascinating objects. We visit the ornate 'Havelis' residences of businessmen known for their beautiful paintings and atriums. Return to your hotel for the night.

Day 3: After breakfast we drive further west to the famous town of Bikaner known all over the country for its 'Bhujia' a salted snack. Bikaner was founded in 1488 AD, by Rao Bikaji a descendant of the Jodhpur founder. Visit the forts and palaces and the colourful bazaar, the Joramal Temple and the Har Mandir the personal temple of the erstwhile rulers. Return to your hotel in the evening for the night.

Day 4: Leaving after breakfast we visit the Camel breeding farm and the Junagarh fort. After lunch we head towards the golden desert city of Jaisalmer with its massive fort atop a craggy hill overlooking the city. In the heart of the Great Thar Desert, this small city is known for its elaborate Havelis many of them now guesthouses. Check into your hotel for the night.

Day 5: Today we go an exploratory tour of the imposing fort built by Rawal Jaisal. Within the fort we visit the 12 th and 15 th century Jain Temples and the Patwon Ki Haveli a five storied mansion with finely carved pillars and interesting murals. We then visit Gadsisar once a reservoir supplying water to the city. In the evening we head to Sam 45 Kms away and experience the desolation of the Thar Desert with its expansive sand dunes. Take a short camel safari as the shimmering sun sets transforming the dunes into vivid gold. Return to your hotel for the night.

Day 6: We head southeast to Jodhpur another desert kingdom . Part of the princely state of Marwar Jodhpur is the second largest city after Jaipur. It is an extensive city of marble palaces and other historical temples and monuments all encircled by a high wall with eight gates. The city today thrives with handicraft shops, music festivals, colourful bazaars and resounds with the sounds of folk music giving you a heady experience of what a medieval Rajasthani city would have been like. Visit the Mehrangarh Fort in the city centre approachable by three huge gates where you see well preserved cannons on the ramparts and in the palace furniture, palanquins musical instruments and other priceless art treasures. View rare photographs at Jaswant Thada a marble cenotaph built in 1899 commemorating Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. Return to your hotel for the night.

Day 7: We drive 96 Kms to the quaint settlement of Ranakpur where we visit the ancient finely carved amber stone temples. Amazingly well preserved they were built in 1460 and one of the temples is supported by 1444 pillars each individually carved. Continue to the hill resort of Mt. Abu and check into your hotel.

Day 8: The exotic intricately carved Dilwara Temples are located here. Two of the marble temples especially display the ultimate refinement in carving techniques during that age. In the afternoon after lunch we drive to the legendary Venice of the east - the city of lakes and palaces -Udaipur. Stunningly located and surrounded by the Arravali hill ranges on three sides the city is bounded by golden desert on one side and green vegetation on all the other corners that is still home to numerous species of wild life. Return to your hotel for the night.

Day 9: After breakfast we visit the Fatehgarh Lake, Sahelion Ki Bari (The Queens resort for her maids of honour) and also visit the luxuriant City palace. In the afternoon we take a boat ride on the expansive Lake Pichola before retiring to your hotel for the night.

Day 10: Today we drive up to the site of one of the most memorable incidents in Rajasthan's glorious history - the citadel of Chittorgarh. This valiant city was sacked three times by Muslim invaders the last time being an attack by Emperor Akbar. In 1535 with no option left but to fight till the end, 33000 Rajput warriors emerged from their fight only to perish by the sword, while 13,000 women immolated themselves on an enormous funeral pyre preferring death to dishonour. Today only the ruins of the fort are left with palaces and Chattris (monuments to the warriors) still existing. We continue on to the revered town of Pushkar. Well known for its annual fair and its large lake which is visited by numerous overseas visitors. We check you into your hotel for the night and then take a tour of all these interesting places.

Day 11: Today we leave for the legendary 'Pink City' - Jaipur. Replete with lavishly decorated palaces, magnificent forts and a colour splashed bazaar selling the delicious sweets the city is famous for, Jaipur is today a modern city with heritage luxury hotels, posh malls and shops selling traditional handicrafts and brass ware and beautifully landscaped gardens and parks, Jaipur is today Rajasthan's state capital. In the afternoon we visit the ancient observatory - Jantar Mantar - built by Maharaja Jai Singh in 1728 a remarkable piece of work displaying a smooth fusion of Mughal and Rajput architecture. Stroll around the interesting museum displaying ancient weapons, priceless miniature paintings in the Rajput style besides valuable carpets and other art pieces. We then visit the Hawa Mahal or Palace of the Winds a façade with tiny latticed windows. Return to your hotel for the night.

Day 12: After an early breakfast we drive down to the impressive Amber Fort the capital of the Jaipur dynasty till 1727. Within we visit the Jagmandir (Temple), Jai Mahal (the Palace) and another fascinating temple dedicated to the Goddess Kali. Take an elephant ride up to the massive fort gates before entering. After lunch we start for the ghost city of Fatehpur Sikri built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar and soon abandoned for its lack of water resources. Within are finely built Halls, Palaces, the Jama Masjid mosque and the famous tomb of Pir Salim Chisti where pilgrims come and tie red threads to the lattice work surrounding his tomb believing that their desired wishes will be fulfilled. The Bulund Darwaza the entrance to the city is the highest gateway in the world and you can see young boys diving down from the tall ramparts into a small pool below the city. Continue to Agra and check into your hotel for the night.

Day 13: After breakfast visit the massive Agra Fort with its numerous halls and palaces, and then head towards the exquisite Taj Mahal built by the Emperor Shah Jehan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal in flawless white marble resplendent in design and structure. Later we drive down to visit the magnificent tomb of Jehangir - Itmad -ud - Daulah before returning to your hotel for the night.

Day 14: Drive back to Delhi and check into your hotel. Your afternoon is free for shopping for handicrafts, clothing and other antiques and what may catch your eye. We transfer you to the airport for your onward flight. As a rule all International leave late at night or very early in the morning.
