MizoramThis fascinating and nature rich expanse of over 250,000 square kilometers in the north east of India encompasses eight states once referred to as the seven sisters as Sikkim was not a state at that time. Today this region covers the eight states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya and Sikkim. This vast ecologically rich area is connected to the rest of India by only a tiny 22 Km corridor of land called the 'chicken neck'. Internationally bordered by the countries of Bhutan Tibet, China, Myanmar and Bangladesh, this region sustains a rich tribal culture and population that speaks numerous languages and over 100 dialects each different from the other. However English, Assamese and Hindi can be understood. Six of these states require Restricted Area Permits which we at Snowbird Adventures arrange with the appropriate authorities. The best time to visit is the period from October to April.

NagalandThe population comprising a combination of Aryan and Mongoloid origin contains a substantial faction of tribal groups tracing their origins to Tibet, Burma, Thailand and Laos. Each of these states has its own tribes quite distinct from each other. Traditions vary so do dialects and though a bit of unrest prevails in this region, traveling around in a group is considerably safe. Wildlife is abundant and the region also sustains and preserves numerous National Parks home to the Indian Elephant, Tiger, Clouded and Snow leopard, various species of deer and antelope, wild boars, White browed Gibbon, Red Pandas and innumerable avian species. The flora includes over a thousand species of delicate and beautiful orchids, besides dense rain forests, expansive meadows, numerous waterfalls and streams and wide rivers. The northeast is virtually a tropical paradise offering travellers and vacationers one of their most unforgettable travel experiences.
