This beautiful and thickly forested state lies at the southern most tip of Northeast India and shares its international borders with Bangladesh and Myanmar. Its vegetation comprises some of the most exotic flowers and trees in the region while its wildlife comprises of some rare and endangered species now protected. Numerous hills stretch across this sylvan state while glistening streams and waterfalls make the landscape unforgettable. While dense forests make up a considerable part of the terrain, you can also expansive fields of paddy near villages. It is believed the people migrated here from China about three centuries ago and came upon this isolated but fertile land in the Mizo (Lushai) Hills and settled here. It was part of Assam during the Raj and later became a full fledged state in 1972. During their British Raj numerous missionaries visited this beautiful but remote region and encouraged the spread of Christianity with the result that almost 86% of the population are Christians today. The people are a joyous and friendly sort and their culture and tradition still prevails in the form of enchanting dances, festivals, handicrafts and handlooms. While English is commonly spoken, the Mizo dialect however is spoken by all. Mizoram today presents the visitor a glimpse into a cross cultural community with a literacy rate of 87%.

The entire countryside of Mizoram delights the nature lover with its abundance of rare fauna and flora, its towering hills forested with a variety of plants and trees and its numerous places of interest. Aizawl the 112 year old state capital affords a clean environment and a comfortable temperate climate throughout the year making it an ideal vacation spot in the hills. Here you get to see old and modern Churches and you can see hear the sounds of school children singing as they make their way to their schools in colourful neat uniforms. The Bara Bazaar thrives with imported merchandise and you can get good deals in clothes, shoes, electronic goods and CDs in a wide assortment of makes and models. There are also a number of shops selling local handicrafts and handlooms like the puanchei – colourful wraparounds, iptichei bags and tiny purses You also get to see colourful traditional festivals all linked to agriculture – sowing, reaping, harvesting each task has its own festival. Handicrafts are generally produced by skilled Mizo men working with indigenous cane and bamboo while most of the expert weaving is done by women. Mizoram is a tourist's delight and offers much in the way of breathtaking landscapes, exotic handicrafts and handlooms and most of all traditional hospitality like none other.

The capital, Aizawl at 1300 m above sea level, is a quiet and picturesque town, perched on a steep ridge with pleasant weather throughout the year. The Mizo love for music, song and dance is legendary. Don't ever pass up an opportunity to witness a performance of their folk dances, particularly the ‘Cheraw' (bamboo dance). These charming people have a close-knit society and are very progressive in their outlook, reflected in the fact that Mizoram boasts of the second-highest literacy rate in India.

.The Extravagant Mizoram Tour – 6 Nts / 7 Day

Day 1: On arrival the Kolkata airport you are met by our representative and taken to your pre-reserved hotel. We take you an afternoon tour of this famous city once the capital of British India. We visit the Victoria memorial built in 1921 standing proudly at the southern end of the lush green Maidan then explore the Indian Museum the largest in the country with its exhaustive collections relating to archaeology, geology, anthropology and zoology. In the evening return to your hotel for dinner and the night.

Day 2: After breakfast we drive you to the Kolkata airport to take the11:00 am the flight to Aizawl city the capital of Mizoram. On arrival at 11:55 am in Aizawl we take you to your pre-reserved hotel. After a brief rest and a sumptuous lunch we take you on a brief familiarity tour of the State Museum , Zoological Gardens, and a stroll around the popular Bara Bazaar before returning to your hotel for the night.

Day 3: After breakfast, we go a full day sight seeing tour. Visit the interesting Handloom and Handicraft Centre with its large range of merchandise. From here we proceed to visit a few close by traditional Mizo villages where we are entertained to a sumptuous meal and friendly batter. By evening we return to your hotel.

Day 4: After an early breakfast we drive 85 Kms (3 Hours) to the breathtaking Tamdil (Tam Lake ) stocked abundantly with fish and prawns. The drive itself gives you fascinating views of the lush green rich countryside. On reaching the lake we take you on a boat ride on tranquil waters and give you a great time of just simply doing nothing – only relaxing on the lakeshore. We then drive another 10 Kms further to the Saituai Resort Village where you check in for the night.

Day 5: After a leisurely breakfast we drive beside the vast plains of Champai 200 Kms away. On the way you get beautiful views of fertile rice fields fringed by the misty hills of Myanmar. Champai is a thriving border town and offers a lot by way of shopping for imported goods from Thailand and other far eastern countries. We check you into your tourist lodge for the night. The evening is free to explore this vibrant town before returning to your lodge for the night.

Day 6: We drive back the way we came reaching Aizawl by lunch time . After tea in the evening stroll along the Bara Bazaar to shop for knick knacks and then in the evening view a traditional Mizo dance before returning to your room.

Day 7: After breakfast we drive you to the airport to catch your flight to Kolkata. On arrival check into your pre-reserved hotel and await your onward flight to your next destination.
