The Ladakh Exploration Package – 11 Nts / 12 Days

Delhi – Leh – Monasteries – Nubra Valley – Leh – Pangong Tso – Leh – Delhi- Agra – Delhi.


Day 1: On arrival in Delhi airport you are met by our representative and taken to your hotel. As most International flights arrive rather early in the morning (12 Midnight to 5 am) the entire day is free to get over your jet lag if any. If you desire we take you an interesting tour of the old city known as ‘Shahjehanabad' . Here you'll walk through narrow streets lined with hoary figures offering delectable Kebabs (spiced up minced mutton cutlets) and Biryanis (Rice mutton Pilafs); an assortment of trinkets and curios beside other exotic ware. We visit the adjacent 15 th century built Jama Masjid (1658 AD) India's largest mosque and then go over to explore the majestic Red Fort built during the same period with its beautiful gardens and red stone and marble pavilions. We escort you back to your hotel for dinner and the night.

Day 2: Take the early morning flight from Delhi to Leh . On arrival we transfer you to your hotel. The day is intentionally kept free due to the high altitude and you must acclimatize to the thin rarefied air containing less oxygen before heading out to explore some of the fascinating monasteries on our tour. Relax and unwind.

Day 3: After breakfast we visit the Leh Palace and Gompa and the recently built Shanti Stupa high on a hill. Return to your hotel for lunch. The afternoon is free to wander around the Leh Bazaar and explore the cafes and shops selling quaint memorabilia and curios. Return to Leh and your hotel by evening.

Day 4: After an early breakfast we drive west to the monasteries of Alchi and Likir two of the most ancient and famous Gompas in western Ladakh. Check out the notes on these Gompas earlier in this page. After exploring them we return to Leh and your hotel by late evening.

Day 5: After breakfast we check out of our hotel for a tour into the northern Nubra Valley also the gateway to the expansive Siachen Glacier. Crossing the second highest motorable pass in the world – the 5602 metre high Khardungla we descend into the Nubra Valley and the village of Khalsar where we check into a deluxe tented camp.

Day 6: From Khalsar we take a left to visit the quaint villages of Diskit and Hunder . Diskit is a quiet laid back village. Visit the Diskit Gompa from where you 180° views of the countryside with numerous prayer flags fluttering all around you. Drive on along side the Shyok River to the last permissible point the village of Hunder set amidst a lush green valley with fruit trees. All along the drive surprisingly you'll see vast sand dunes without any vegetation. Visit the ruins of an old monastery and also the newer one before returning to the deluxe tented camp.

Day 7: Drive north along the Nubra River to the last motorable village of Panamik crossing the small villages of Tirit and Summor which is home to the most important Gompa in the Nubra valley Samstem Ling monastery . We reach Panamik known for its hot springs in about two hours. Stay overnight at a guesthouse or tented camp.

Day 8: Return to Leh via the Khardungla La and check into your hotel in Leh for the night. The afternoon and evenings are free for shopping or just relaxing.

Day 9: After an early breakfast we drive 6 hours due east over the Chang La pass by passing unusually sculpted hills and vast plains to reach the 62 Km long sapphire blue Pangong Tso (lake) three fourths of which lies in Tibet . There are great chances of spotting the numerous migratory birds including the endangered Black Necked Crane and Bar Headed Geese which fly all the way from Siberia and China to descend here for breeding during these months. Return to Leh and your hotel in time for dinner.

Day 10: Early in the morning we transfer you to the airport to catch your morning flight into New Delhi. You are met by our representative and escorted to your hotel. The day is free for shopping or personal activities or if you wish we take you on a grand tour of New Delhi. Visit the India Gate a massive stone gateway inscribed with the names of the many Indian soldiers who gave their lives during the Second World War. To the other end of the Rajpath (Road of the Kings) stands the stupendous Rashtrapathi Bhavan (Presidents House) we head south to visit the solemn Humayun's Tomb , b uilt by the wife of Humayun, Haji Begum in the mid 16th century, this red sand stone structure is considered to be the predecessor of Taj Mahal and a fine example of Mughal Architecture. Humayun's wife also lies buried in this magnificent edifice of red and white sandstone and black and yellow marble. From here we drive on to the elaborate Lotus Temple built in the shape of a white lotus . Meticulously landscaped lawns with delightful fountains dot the surroundings of this 1986 built temple open to people from all faiths. We return to your hotel for dinner.

Day 11: Leave early in the morning for Agra . Here visit the legendary exquisitely built Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and the abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri 37 Kms from Agra. Return to Delhi by late evening and check into your hotel.

Day 12: Day at leisure. International flights normally leave late at night or very early in the mornings. We transfer you to the airport for your onward flight according to the flight timings.
