The Kashmir Himalayan Meadows & Forests Culture Tour
Delhi - Srinagar - Pahalgam - Srinagar - Gulmarg - Khilanmarg - Srinagar - Delhi - Agra - Delhi.

This tour takes you into the fascinating Kashmir vale with its beautiful serene Dal and Nagin Lakes the shores of which are lined with colourful houseboats. A stay in a houseboat on the lake is a heady and delightful experience. These are classified ranging from Deluxe to D class. Srinagar itself is a fascinating place especially the old city. Stretching out at the foot the Hari Parbat hill, Srinagar is on the banks of the River Jhelum where numerous houses stand. In the past centuries merchants used to visit the valley and the dresses of the people reflect this. Here you'll find shops stocked chockablock with copper utensils, embroidered tapestry rugs, shawls, papier mache products with intricately painted patterns, bakery shops offering Kashmiri breads of various varieties and other bric-a-brac. The boulevard is Srinagar's more elite shopping centre with posh shops. The meadows of Pahalgam and Sonamarg are a delight to the eye as are the towering snow clad mountains all around. The beautiful grassy slopes turn into world class ski slopes in the winter while the extensive meadows of Khilanmarg leave one asking for more. It's no wonder that the Mughal Emperor Jehangir proclaimed - If there is a paradise on earth- it is this-it is this!

Day 1: Catch the early morning flight from Delhi to Srinagar. On arrival check into a luxurious houseboat which will remain your base for the time spent in this wonderful valley. Take a stroll around the old city window shop and view the unusual merchandise on sale. In the afternoon after lunch stroll along the boulevard and then visit the Shri Pratap Singh Museum known for its ancient sculptures from old Hindu temples besides various other archeological treasures. Return to your houseboat for a relaxed evening on the lake.

From here we head uphill to the Pari Mahal (Fairies' Palace). This palace was originally a retreat for Sufis and is full of crumbling stairways leading to terraces planted with flowers. Built by Dara Shikoh a Mughal prince, the palace is still quite secluded.

Day 3: Drive 96 Kms east to the Pahalgam valley at the confluence of the Lidder and Sheshnag streams. There are a number of hotels and restaurants here. Pahalgam is surrounded by green and smoky Blue Mountains and offers the visitors numerous walks outside the town. You can shop here for handicrafts, books, periodicals, books and food supplies before returning to Srinagar and your houseboat by late evening.

Day 4: Drive 55 Kms west from Srinagar to reach the idyllic meadows of Gulmarg through a needle straight road lined by stately poplars flanked by extensive rice fields. A large

Day 5: Catch the early morning flight to Delhi and check into your hotel. The entire day is free for shopping. Return to your hotel for the night.
