The mighty Brahmaputra River flows through the state winding its way like a large inland sea towards the Bay of Bengal. Assam is also renowned for its excellent tea produced in rich green gardens spreading over the hillsides where now and then you get to see colonial style bungalows often habited by mangers of the tea estates. Assam also has numerous wild life reserves and parks home to one -horned Rhino, a number of ape species, the majestic tiger besides several species of deer and thousands of avian residents and visitors. Assam is an unforgettable destination offering the traveller and wild life enthusiast some of the best holidays in the region.

The Tea Garden and Wild Life Familiarity Tour


Day 1: On arrival the Kolkata airport you are met by our representative and taken to your pre-reserved hotel. We take you an afternoon tour of this famous city once the capital of British India. We visit the Victoria memorial built in 1921 standing proudly at the southern end of the lush green Maidan then explore the Indian Museum the largest in the country with its exhaustive collections relating to archaeology, geology, anthropology and zoology. In the evening return to your hotel for dinner and the night.

Day 2: After breakfast we drive you to the airport to take the flight to Guwahati city the capital of Assam and the gateway to the north eastern states of India. On arrival we take you to your pre-reserved hotel. The rest of the day is spent at leisure. In the evening we take you on a sunset cruise on the River Brahmaputra. Return to your hotel for the night.

Day 3: After breakfast we leave for Kaziranga National Park 217 Kms away (6 hours). Spread over an area of 430 Square kilometers, it was declared a national park in 1940 and is home to the Indian Elephant and one-horned Rhino besides other species of fauna. It is also a delight for the avid bird watcher being home to Oriental Honey Buzzard, Black-Shouldered Kite, Black Kite, Pallas's Fishing Eagle, White Tailed Eagle, Grey-Headed Fishing Eagle and Himalayan Griffon besides other avian residents. During the winters it becomes home to a large number of migratory birds including Graylag Geese, Bar-Headed Geese, Ruddy Shelduck, Gadwall, Red-Crested Pochards and Northern Shoveller . We spend the night in a jungle lodge within the park.

Day 4: Take a drive through this vast landscape of marshes, swamps and tall elephant grass. View the Indian Elephant, Rhino and other wildlife that inhabit the park. We return to the lodge and after tea we arrange a special film show on wildlife before you retire for dinner and the night.

Day 5: Today after breakfast we go on an elephant safari and then after lunch transfer to Jeep for a long drive through the park. In the evening thrill to a performance of the Bhiu Dance by the local villagers. Return to your room after a sumptuous dinner.

Day 6: After a leisurely breakfast we drive 97 Kms (2 ½ hours) to the bustling town of Jorhat also called the Tea Capital of Assam. Check into your pre-reserved Bungalow and after resting for awhile and having lunch we visit the Tea Research Institute the oldest in India and get to see the history of Tea. We then visit a tea plantation, interacting with the tea garden workers and get to experience what a tea planter's life was in the early 20 th century. You may also get to see the traditional Jumur dance performed by these lively friendly locals. Return to your Bungalow for dinner and the night.

Day 7: The entire day is spent in the tea gardens, pluck tea with professional tea pluckers, taste tea with expert tea tasters and all in all enjoy tea garden life. After lunch we explore the Heritage Mansion in Jorhat and return to our Bungalow for the night.

Day 8: After an early breakfast we take a cruise on the Brahmaputra River to what is the largest Riverine Island in the world - Majuli Island . The rich bio-diversity of this charming place attracts numerous migratory birds in the winter and you see them in the thousands here. We also visit a few shrines revered by the locals and known as Satras before returning to the main land and your room.

Day 9: Drive to Dibrugarh 116 Kms away and a major trading centre and a beautiful river side town in Upper Assam. This is where the expansive River Brahmaputra is at its widest. Like Jorhat Dibrugarh is also surrounded by lush green sloping tea gardens. Check into an island retreat on the banks of the River Brahmaputra.

Day 10: We take an early morning stroll along the resort's beach and spend the day at leisure. You can opt to go for kayaking on the river or try your hand at angling. Return to your room for the night.

Day 11: Today we drive out of town to visit an old colonial style Bungalow located within a sprawling Tea estate which will be our home for the night. Enjoy garden fresh green tea in the evening looking out on an expansive sea of green tea.

Day 12: After breakfast we drive to the Dibrugarh airport to catch your flight to Kolkata / Delhi.
