This nature rich state's vegetation ranges from a wide belt of swampy rain forests along the foothills and the low lying areas to tropical and sub tropical further up ending in hi-altitude terrain in the eastern Himalayas. Arunachal's natural wealth comes form its vast resources of timber. Here within the deep forests are climbers, and an abundance of cane, bamboo and orchids. The lower altitudes sustain a multitude of deciduous forests with smaller areas of ever green tropical vegetation. Sparsely populated with a large land area of 84,000 sq.kms, Arunachal is home to five large rivers - Kameng, Siang (Brahmaputra in Assam), Tirap, Lohit and Subansiri. On its international borders lie China, Myanmar and Bhutan. Its people coming from a complex blend of communities are however friendly and jovial besides being extremely hardworking. Arunachal is a fairy tale land with its turbulent mountain rivers, lofty mountain peaks (the highest at 7090m) and yawning lush green river valleys. The nearest airport is at Tezpur (216 Kms from Itanagar the capital) connected by daily flights to Kolkata. To visit Arunachal every domestic traveller requires an Inner Line Permit while overseas visitors require a Protected Area Permit both of which we at Snowbird Adventures arrange for you according to the prescribed requirement.

The Arunachal Tribal Tour

Day 1: On arrival the Kolkata airport you are met by our representative and taken to your pre-reserved hotel. We take you an afternoon tour of this famous city once the capital of British India. We visit the Victoria memorial built in 1921 standing proudly at the southern end of the lush green Maidan then explore the Indian Museum the largest in the country with its exhaustive collections relating to archaeology, geology, anthropology and zoology. In the evening return to your hotel for dinner and the night.

Day 2: We take you to the airport to board your flight to Guwahati. On arrival in the morning we take you to your hotel to check in. The entire day is at leisure where you can take stroll around this sprawling city and the gateway to the other states of the Northeast. In evening we take you for a cruise on the expansive Brahmaputra River to experience a beautiful sunset. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Leaving Guwahati after an early breakfast we begin our drive to Bomdila (350 Kms) by passing Tezpur the tea capital of India with its undulating lush green tea gardens and later en-route visiting the small hamlet of Tipi renowned for its over 7500 species of orchids. On arrival in Bomdila we check you into your hotel and after a warming cup of tea take you on a stroll of this tiny town once famous during the Indo Chinese conflict of 1962. You have entered Arunachal Pradesh.

Day 4: After a leisurely breakfast and visitng the Craft Centre, we leave for the town of Tawang 190 Kms away at 11,155 ft and bordering Bhutan and Tibet. Driving through enchanting Himalayan landscapes we cross the Se La pass at 13, 714 feet with the glistening placid Se la lake below and the towering Se la Peak towering above. This is the land of the Monpa and Sherdukpen tribes and an important place for Mahayana Buddhists. On arrival at Tawang we check into the Tourist Lodge. Your afternoon and evening are free for leisure activities.

Day 5: After breakfast we pay a visit to the 400 year old Tawang Monastery with its 26 foot high gilded image of Buddha. Within the monastery lie precious manuscripts, rare gold lettered scriptures and very old thangkas. Return to your lodge for lunch and then head to the beautiful forested hillsides of Pakang Teng Tso (lake) and return to your lodge for the night.

Day 6: Today we drive through spectacular scenery to retrace our steps to the Sela pass and stopover at the Nameri National Park with rare species of wild life. Spend overnight at the Eco camp in the park.

Day 7: From Nameri we drive to Tezpur and on to the state capital of Itanagar . On arrival by early evening we check you into your hotel. After a refreshing cup of tea we visit the state museum where you get to see the laidback lifestyle of the Arunachali tribes along with maps and miniature diagrams and illustrations of their architecture, festivals, handicrafts and dances. Return to your hotel for the night.

Day 8: After breakfast we drive 159 Kms to the small Ziro town within a valley surrounded with thickly forested hillsides of Pine. Also known as the Apatani Plateau, this place is known for its paddy-cum fish culture farming. After lunch we visit a typical Apatani Tribal village and then return to Ziro and visit the Government Handicrafts Museum excellent for shopping for local bamboo products and other cotton and metal ware. We then return to your hotel in Ziro for the night.

Day 9: Today is an interesting day as we visit Apatani villages , Tarin fish farms , and Tall Bamboo and Pine groves. In the evening we also get to enjoy a traditional cultural programme. Return to your hotel in Ziro for the night.

Day 10: Today we drive east towards the small hamlet of Daparijo 160 Kms away stopping now and then to visit a few Hill Miri and Adi Tribal villages . After lunch we go over to a Tagin Tribal village . We stay at the Circuit House.

Day 11: Today a 160 Kms drive takes us to the small town of Along. On arrival we check into the circuit house. In the afternoon we stroll around this small village town and visit the Museum and Craft emporium. Return to the circuit house for the night.

Day 12: After breakfast we leave for the town of Dibrugarh after crossing the Brahmaputra on a ferry.

Day 13: Drive to the airport for your onward flight to Delhi. On arrival we transfer you to your hotel. Your evening is free for shopping and personal activities.

Day 14: After breakfast we take you on a sight seeing tour of India gate (war memorial) drive past President's House, Parliament House & Secretariat Building. After lunch we go over to Old Delhi visiting the ancient Jama Masjid and its interesting backstreets, drive past Red fort and Chandni Chowk a major shopping centre. Return to your hotel from where we take you to the airport for your onward flight.
